Senior Jamarcus Elerson-Porter scored 16 points to help Kearsley beat Brandon on Feb. 20.

Boys

The Hornets defeated the Brandon Blackhawks 65-49 on Feb. 20 at home.

Jamarcus Elerson-Porter, senior, led the team in points for the second game a row, knocking down 16 points.

As reported by MLive, Coach Paul Adas said he is pleased with the team’s offensive execution.

“We had some good runs early, but we’ve been having a difficult time closing out quarters,” Adas said. “That wasn’t the case today, and we ended on an 8-0 run in the first quarter. It’s been something that we have been focusing on, and we were able to hold on in the fourth and really took care of the ball. I’ve been pleased with how our offense has been executing lately.”

Senior Bryce Jenkins and junior Deitrick Young also finished strong, ending the night with 13 points a piece.

The boys’ team improved its record to 10-7 overall, 7-6 in league action.

Kearsley fell to the Blackhawks 40-23 at home on Feb. 20.

Leading the girls was junior Diane Bond. She scored 10 points.

“We were able to keep up with them in the first half but fell apart in the third quarter,” Bond said. “We’re still missing players, so we’re outnumbered and not everyone is capable of playing the whole game. Other players will have to step up and fill the missing roles on our team.”

Sophomore Rachel Tolley added six points, and sophomore Brittney Dick chipped in five.

This loss put the girls’ team at 2-16 overall, 0-13 in the league.
