Senior swimmers shine on senior night but lose to Brandon

Senior Steven Wilkerson competes in the 100-yard backstroke on Feb. 12.

The Kearsley/Clio swim team swam their last home meet of the season Feb. 12 against Brandon, losing 105-73.

The 200-yard medley relay team of freshman Noel Nowacki, junior  Trent Kehoe, senior Ryan Walker, and senior Brendan Evenson placed first with the time of 1:56.45.

The same relay team also swam the 200 free relay in 1:46.81, taking first.

Some individual wins came from Nowacki in the 50 free, with a time of 25.36, and Kehoe, who swam a 1:11.31 in the 100 breast.

Coach Jeff Gilbert said first-year swimmer senior Marco Rivera had a marvelous performance at the meet.

Rivera dropped 15 seconds in the 200 I.M., six seconds in his 100 butterfly, and did his personal best in both his 50 fly for the 200 medley relay and his 100 free for the 400 freestyle relay.

Being the last home meet of the season, the seniors were honored for their commitment to the team and their final year of swimming with senior night.

Seniors Joseph Dever, Cameron Smith, Steven Wilkerson, Rivera, Evenson, and Walker lined up with their parents to walk down the pool deck .

Gilbert read off each senior’s favorite memory of swimming and advice to their fellow swimmers, and Gilbert expressed his appreciation for each swimmer.

The seniors enjoyed the tribute as friends and family took pictures of them on their special night.
