Senior Makenzie Boillat is held by Mr. Nick Van Oosten, gymnastics and cheer coach from CORE Athletics, on Friday, Dec. 7.

The cheer team took second place at Waterford Mott on Friday, Dec. 7, with a total of 645.62 points.

Gibraltar Carlson took first place with a total of 771.96 points and Goodrich took third with a total of 605.46 points.

Kearsley earned 207.90 points in round one, 196.12 in round two, and 249.60 in round three.

Annalesa DePottey, sophomore, said that difficulties held the team down, but the Hornets worked through their problems.

“We honestly did the best we could, but we did have some technical difficulties,” DePottey said. “We came through in the end.”

Freshman Olivia Saxton said that for the first competition the group did well but has room to improve.

“We did fairly well for our first time,” Saxton said. “But we weren’t confident in knowing our rounds and expressing that we knew what we were doing.”

The team’s next competition is Saturday, Jan. 5, at Brighton’s Best Invitational.
