The girls’ bowling team faced off against Linden in the match that would decide whether or not they would secure another Flint Metro League title on Feb 4.

The Hornets beat Linden 30-0, securing their sixth consecutive conference title.

Senior Haleigh Rybka was excited for the team’s accomplishment.

“It feels good,” Rybka said. “Not many other schools have a team that could do that.”

Only two other sports teams in the league claim longer conference-title streaks. Brandon cheer has seven consecutive titles, and the Fenton girls’ swim team has 10 consecutive titles.

With the win over Linden, the Hornets now have a 52-match win streak in league competition.

Rybka said the Hornets plan to keep rolling.

“We are at 52 and making it 53 this weekend,” Rybka said.

The match against Linden did not prove to be a challenge for the Hornets.

In the first baker game the Hornets shot a 246 game while Linden  shot a 95. The second baker game was no different with the Hornets out shooting Linden 225-78.

Kearsley shot a 471 series in bakers to Linden’s 173 series, giving Kearsley a 10-0 lead. In addition, the 471 series is the third highest series in the state this season.

In the first individual game, the Hornets bowled a 1,166 series, which is the third highest game in state history for girls’ bowling and is only two pins behind the series that they shot a few weeks ago.

Junior Hannah Ploof led the team with a 255 game with senior Teagan MacDonald close behind with a 242 game.

After this game, the Hornets were up 19-0, securing the match and their sixth consecutive league title.

In the second individual game, Kearsley shot a 1,048 series against Linden’s 469 series.

Senior Kayla Emmendorfer led the team with a 246 game while Ploof was one pin behind with a 245.

Ploof shot a 500 series, which is the season record for girls in the league.

Overall, the Hornets shot 2,685 when combining the two individual games and the two baker games, while Linden shot a combined total of 1,308.
