Taveon Harris led the way for the boys track and field team in its first meet.

Harris, a senior, earned a medal in all four of his events.

The Hornets competed at the Saginaw Valley State University Indoor Invitational on Thursday, March 22.

Although team scores were not kept, individuals competed for medals.

In the 60-meter dash, Harris placed second in 7.29 seconds.

Harris also finished third in the 400 dash with a time of 52.21. He placed fourth in the 200, sprinting it in 23.26.

In the 1200-meter relay, which is an event only at this meet on an indoor track, Kearsley’s team of Harris, senior Tre’Ron Griffin, sophomore Raydoffa Braziel, and freshman Braylon Silvas, placed second. The relay team’s time was 2:35.55.

In the 800 run, Braziel set a personal record of 2:07.33, finishing in fifth place.

Kearsley had two athletes finish well in the field events.

Silvas placed fifth in the long jump.  In his first high school meet, he jumped 20 feet, 0.25 inches.

This is an exceptional jump for a freshman, especially for the first meet of the year.

In the shot put, junior Eddie Harris threw 46-4.25, which was good enough for sixth place.
