Junior Stephanie Lane prepares to hit a backhand during the 2016-2017 season.

Upperclassmen lead the tennis team this season.

Coach Cory Fisher said the top returning players are seniors Brooke Mannor, Hannah Hendley, Mallory Teed, and junior Stephanie Lane.

Mannor feels positive about this season.

“I feel like we’re going to do really good this year,” Mannor said. “We have really good players and the freshmen are doing really well.”

As the season quickly approaches, Lane is feeling the anticipation to start playing.

“I am excited that the season is finally starting,” Lane said. “Coach (Will) Johnson and Fisher are pushing us to improve our mental and physical game.”

The seniors on the team are feeling bittersweet about beginning their last season.

“I think our team has come a long way,” Hendley said. “Freshman year, we had a smaller team and we weren’t as passionate about it. Seeing the underclassmen growing into the players they are now is really cool.”

Fisher is excited to have so many experienced girls returning to the team this year.

“There are 16 varsity girls coming back this season,” Fisher said.

The first match is Monday March 26, at 4 p.m. at home against Mt. Morris.
