‘I, Tonya’ is astonishing, ridiculously entertaining

“I, Tonya” exceeded my expectations.

Margot Robbie stars as American figure skater Tonya Harding.

The film focuses on Tonya Harding and her struggles with her abusive mother, LaVona Harding, played by Allison Janney.

The film takes us on a journey throughout Tonya’s experience with life and figure skating.

LaVona forces Tonya to drop out of school at a young age so she can focus on her skating, with the help of her coach Diane Rawlinson, played by Julianne Nicholson.

Tonya quickly gains success in her skating but is held back by the negative reputation of where she came from.

During this time, Tonya meets her husband Jeff Gillooly, played by Sebastian Stan. Soon enough, the relationship becomes physically abusive.

LaVona scolds Tonya for putting up with Jeff, and Tonya blames her mother for her marrying an abusive man, saying she set her up for that mindset.

Tonya pushes through the pain and becomes the first female to land two triple axel jumps in her competition. She begins training for the 1994 Olympics with a new coach.

But Tonya’s life goes downhill when Jeff appoints two of his acquaintances to attack Tonya’s opponent, Nancy Kerrigan.

Jeff tells the FBI that Tonya was part of the attacks, and this crushes her reputation even more.

Tonya avoids prison but is banned from competitive figure skating for life. This leaves Tonya heartbroken and flustered.

The film was successful, receiving good reviews from critics and fans.

Allison Janney and Margot Robbie were both nominated for Academy Awards for their performances in the film.

“I, Tonya” was released in December.

I normally don’t enjoy these type of movies like this one, but my opinion changed completely after seeing this one.

For sure, I will add this film to my list of favorite movies.
