Mitchner scores 31, girls basketball cruises past Clio

This is a not a typo — Zaria Mitchner scored 31 points in a single game, her career high.

The junior cager personally scored only 10 fewer points than Clio’s entire team on Friday, Jan. 19.

The girls basketball team won its sixth league game of the year after beating the Mustangs on the road 60-41.

Mitchner said she focused on being a spark for the Hornets.

“I think I did really well and brought lots of energy for the game,” Mitchner said, “and took the win for my team.”

Mitchner added that her high scoring was because of her team.

“We did really well, and we took the win,” Mitchner said.

The Hornets record now stands at 7-4 overall, 6-2 in the league.

In addition, Kearsley is now in a three-way tie for second place in the league.

The next game is Tuesday, Jan. 23, at home against Flushing. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
