Junior Maddie Raysin has once again scored among the top swimmers, qualifying her for regional competition.

She scored in the top six during the Metro League championship, allowing her to move on to the MHSAA Division 3 regional diving competition. The competition will be held in DeWitt on Thursday, Nov. 9.

Raysin has been swimming for five years and she is currently one of three captains on the swim team.

Since her freshman year, Raysin has been improving steadily, moving from fourth-place finishes at meets to first- and second-place finishes by her junior year.

Raysin knows being a winner isn’t something that comes without a struggle.

This season went by fast, according to Raysin. She said it was difficult for her to juggle her academics along with swimming.

Raysin explains that it was “kind of challenging. Balancing swim and school is pretty difficult.”

A challenge she is currently facing is the school has to repair its diving boards. Due to this, she may be unable to practice in Kearsley’s pool.

Raysin said she may have to go all the way to Fenton to get a practice in before her big meet.

Last year, Raysin was able to make it to the second of four rounds, but this year she hopes to make it to, at least, the third round.
