Being a young girl in today’s society can bring forth some risks when being out alone. Here are five ways to stay as safe as possible.

1. Bring only the necessities

When you’re out by yourself, it is a good idea to only bring the things you will need with you.

Don’t bring excessive amounts of money or credit or debit cards you know you won’t need. Also, bringing less with you makes you appear less like a possible target for robbery.

I hate to say it, but the way you dress also affects how likely you are to be targeted. Wear clothing that makes you blend in with the crowd.

2. Avoid taking Ubers or taxis

There is a risk involved with taking Ubers or taxis.

You don’t know the driver, and you don’t know their intentions.

It’s safer to just coordinate your own ride with someone you know and trust.

3. Let someone know where you are at all times

Having someone know where you are is a good thing because you have to have a conversation with the person about where you’re going.

If they foresee any possible dangers, they can tell you before you go so that you’re aware of any risks going into the situation.

Also, having someone know where you are eliminates some of the fear and will make you more confident in being alone.

4. Always have a way to protect yourself

This may be as simple as taking a self-defense class or carrying Chemical Mace with you.

Predators are always out there, so being able to defend yourself is a key way to stay safe if you ever find yourself in a dangerous situation.

5. Be aware of your surroundings

Being alert and knowing what’s around you can help you avoid people or places that may be dangerous.

It’s never a bad thing to be safe, but when it’s too late there is nothing you can do.

Following even a few of these steps can eliminate the risk that comes with being out alone as a young female. This will help you feel safer and your loved ones feel confident that you’ll be smart in any situation that life throws at you.
