Girls track and field falls to Linden and Flushing

The girls track and field team fell to both Linden and Flushing in a double duel meet on Wednesday, May 10, at home.

Flushing and Linden beat Kearsley with a score of 105.5-31.5 and 76-60, respectively.

Coach Mike Simms said even though the team lost its meets, the Hornets performed well.

“We got to see some of the best girls in many events and while the scores may not reflect the success in the final outcomes,” Simms said. “Many girls competed and ran personal bests. This shows that we are getting better and must continue to do so.”

Four Kearsley athletes set personal records throughout the meet, including junior Madison Jordan and seniors Ave’r McKay, Savannah Jones, and Madison White.

Simmsa said he is excited to see how some of his athletes performed at the meet.

“Ave’r McKay continued to be a beast on the track, and Madison Jordan and Mary Wheeler exemplified hard work paying off with best times and distances of the year in the 400 and discus, respectfully.”

McKay ran four events and took first in two of them, setting a personal record in the 200-meter dash.

McKay ran the 100 in 13.04, taking second place and the 200 in 26.59, taking first.

McKay also took first in the 400 with a time of 1:00.51 and ran the 3200 relay with teammates Madison Jordan, Stacia Tipton, and Amelia Boggs. The relay team took second with a time of 4:32.49.

As well as taking part in the 3200 relay, Jordan ran the 400 and came in second place with a personal record of 1:04.94.

Jones ran the 3200 meter and took second place with a time of 13:34.71.

White placed third with a time of 53.03 in the 300 meter hurdles.

Sophomore Mackenzie Ramey took second in shot put with a distance of 33 feet and 4.5 inches.

Senior Alexis Schwartz took second place in pole vault with a height of 7-06.

Kearsley is now 3-5 overall and 2-5 in the league.

Kearlsey will appear next at Davison for an invitational Friday, May 12, at 1 p.m.

Simms said the Hornets need to stay focused as the end of the season approaches.

“We just have to finish strong and continue to show improvement throughout the remainder of the season with the most important meets around the corner, (which are) regionals and the Metro League meet,” he said.
