Three teams compete in district championship games

The good news is that three of Kearsley’s sports teams played in their district championships over the weekend.

The bad news is they all lost.

Soccer

The Hornets competed in the district final on Friday, June 3, where Kearsley was defeated by Fenton 5-0.

The girls’ had a hopeful attitude on the road to the finals.

In the opening round of the tournament, Kearsley beat Owosso 3-2. From there, the Hornets advanced on to the semifinal where the team beat Holly in a shootout, ending the game with a 2-1 victory.

Baseball

The baseball team went to Flushing to play in its district tournament, Saturday, June 4.

The Hornets knocked off Swartz Creek in a semifinal game 9-8 on a walk-off hit by senior Ryan Bennett.

They then lost in the final game to Saginaw Heritage 13-1.

Softball

The softball team also won its semifinal game in its district tournament at Flushing.

Kearsley advanced to the final on Saturday, June 4, after shutting out Swartz Creek 3-0. 

But the season ended for the Hornets when they faced off with Saginaw Heritage in the championship, losing 8-5.
