‘Eleventh Night’ does not live up to expectations
I did not care much for the school play, “Eleventh Night.”
The play, directed by Mr. John Hall and junior Rian Schulz, was written by senior Julie Lemon.
The play is based on the comedic Shakespeare play “Twelfth Night.”
It had too many technical difficulties, the dance numbers were too awkward, and the overall plot felt rushed.
Despite the awkward dance numbers and singing, many of the actors and actresses on stage really outdid themselves.
Senior Chance Wikaryasz really exaggerated his character, something I always love seeing from him. His over-the-top acting and movements always made the audience laugh.
Freshman Mary Wheeler, Schulz, and senior Mackenzie Schroeder were some of the absolute best parts of the play with their renditions of Kearsley teachers. I died laughing when Wheeler rushed out on stage during one of the fight scenes.
Unfortunately, I found myself distracted by the abundant difficulties the play had.
Songs randomly stopped playing halfway through the songs, and people working the lights missed their cues, which was painfully obvious to viewers in the audience.
The biggest problem, however, was the plot. The plot followed a set of twins named Viola and Sebastian. Viola takes Sebastian’s place while Sebastian goes to Las Vegas. After Sebastian leaves, Viola goes to high school as his twin and accidentally falls into a love triangle.
The plot seemed very rushed at times, and I simply could not remember names of characters. I was unsure of what characters were more important to the plot than others because characters were constantly coming and going from the stage.
The ending was an absolute mess. In the matter of a few lines, everything just sort of turned out well.
Overall, despite the good qualities of the show and the effort of the actors and actresses on stage, I did not like it. I give “Eleventh Night” 2 out of 5 stars.
