Kearsley’s choirs spent the last month preparing for the Holiday Concert, a favorite event of many community members, myself included.

The concert took place Dec. 11, and I was impressed with the quality of the performance.

The show began with Sophomore Megan Fitzko playing various Christmas songs on the violin.

I thought Fitzko’s performance was excellent; she is talented with the violin.

Fitzko also performed a vocal solo in the Treble Singers’ performance of “The Christmas Song,” by Mel Torme and Robert Wells.

As Fitzko was finishing her piece, the Women’s Chorus walked onstage. I admired the order they had, coming out in straight lines and getting into position to sing almost flawlessly.

The choir then sang Michael Clawson’s arrangement of “The First Noel.” The performance was spectacular.

My favorite song that the Women’s Chorus performed was “Silver Bells.” The singers were cheerful, and they made me excited for Christmas.

After the Women’s Chorus finished, senior Arika McClain took the stage and performed her own arrangement of “Do You Hear What I Hear?”

McClain is a member of the A Cappella Choir, Treble Singers, and Melody Makers.

She is very involved in music and has had much experience in a music setting. This was evident in the skill and talent she displayed in her performance.

I thoroughly enjoyed the performance. McClain is a great singer, and she is capable of projecting her voice well, even while playing the guitar.

After McClain finished her song, the Men’s Chorus came to the stage and sang a few more Christmas songs, including “African Gloria,” and “Jingle Bells.”

I think the Men’s Chorus was talented as well.

It was clear that each member of the chorus had his own voice, even as the chorus demonstrated the power of melding individual voices into one melodious sound.

My favorite song from the Men’s Chorus was “Feliz Navidad.” It was the last song performed by the chorus, and I could tell that the singers were still giving it their all.

They had literally saved the best for last. It looked like everyone was enjoying themselves and that made me enjoy the performance even more.

After the Men’s Chorus finished, out came Senior Samantha Redick, singing “Last Christmas,” by George Michael.

I enjoyed the way her voice smoothly transitioned from a melody to a more chipper tone. She did not look nervous and her performance went smoothly.

The Treble Singers performed next, singing a few holiday classics like “Silent Night,” and “The Christmas Song.”

My favorite song the Treble Singers performed was “Jingle Bell Rock.”

Since the song is one of my all-time favorites, my expectations were high when the performance began. Fortunately, my expectations were met, if not surpassed.

As the Treble Singers left the stage, junior Zack Broughton took the stage and performed “Merry Christmas, Darling,” by Richard Carpenter and Frank Pooler.

Broughton’s performance was my favorite solo performance. I loved the way he projected his voice.

It was evident that he was confident and aware of the talents he possesses. Broughton’s performance was so good that it gave me chills.

As Broughton wrapped up the song, he joined the Melody Makers as they entered the stage.

The Melody Makers performed a medley of songs, including “Welcome Christmas,” and “Winter Wonderland.”

The Melody Makers’ performance really put me into the holiday spirit.

My favorite performance of the night was when the Melody Makers sang “You’re A Mean One, Mr. Grinch.”

I could tell that the audience loved the song.

The auditorium swelled with good cheer and Christmas spirit, and the audience cheered louder for this song than any other.

A solo by Senior Kaci Yencer followed the Melody Makers. Yencer performed “White Christmas,” a holiday classic that I enjoyed.

The concert concluded with the A Cappella Choir, which performed well, as always.

The Holiday Concert was a great way for people to get into the holiday spirit.

Families had the opportunity to watch their children perform Christmas classics, an experience that they will never forget.
