Girls’ track takes sixth at Goodrich Invitational

The girls’ track team placed sixth out of 12 teams at the Goodrich Invitational Friday, May 6, with 40 points.

Junior Ave’r McKay led the Hornets, winning two races, finishing with a runner-up, and taking third in a relay.

McKay’s wins were in the 100-meter dash, sprinting it in 13.51, and in the 400 dash.

She ran an impressive 59.93 in the 400, about four seconds in front of the second-place finisher.

McKay also placed second in the 200 dash, running 27.19

Finally, she was part of the third place 1600-relay team (4:30.55). The team consisted of seniors Diane Bond and Emalie Lewis, sophomore Madison Jordan, and McKay.

“I am extremely proud of how my team performed,” McKay said. “It was a great meet. We placed much better than we did last year.”

Two Hornets scored in the pole vault with each of them vaulting 8 feet. Senior Halley Huber took fourth place, while junior Alexis Schwartz finished fifth.

Finally, sophomore Quashayla Johnson placed seventh in the shot put with a distance of 29-5.

The Hornets’ next meet is Wednesday, May 11, in a double-dual meet at Flushing against Flushing and Linden.
