‘Batman v. Superman’ proves to be a box office hit
“Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” was a phenomenal movie that has left me hopeful for a start to a new movie series.
I was lucky enough to see the movie on opening night, which was Thursday, March 24, in 3-D.
Attending the movie with low expectations, I happily left the theater feeling surprised even though some viewers have different opinions on the movie, due to Ben Affleck staring as Batman.
Many people did not like the change from Christian Bale to Ben Affleck.
Although I was also skeptical of this change at first, too, I was actually impressed with how Affleck portrayed his character.
He delivered a fresh role as Batman that definitely gave Bale a run for his money.
Also, many people did not like the idea that Batman was a killer, in the aspect that he killed criminals while fighting.
I do not agree with these opinions.
Director Zach Snyder did an amazing job with the movie by keeping it similar to the comic book and connecting it to the movie “Man of Steel.”
The movie begins with a flashback of Bruce Wayne’s (Affleck) parents getting murdered, then cuts to the final events of the movie “Man of Steel.”
The major collateral damage, caused by Superman (Henry Cavill), made the world fear the god-like hero and what Superman’s real intentions are.
This scene also gave viewers insight on why Batman had developed a dislike for Superman.
The world’s opinion on Superman, as well as his own, inspires Wayne to take on the man of steel.
However, the antagonist, Lex Luther, takes advantage of Batman’s determination of taking out Superman.
He uses it to his benefit by telling Superman he must kill Batman in order to save his mother.
Lex Luther is then taken by surprise due to Batman and Superman teaming up.
He is then outraged, causing him to create Doomsday in order to take out both Batman and Superman.
The heroic pair is also given a surprise appearance by Wonder Woman, who has been in hiding for years until deciding to help the two defeat Luther’s Doomsday before Metropolis is destroyed.
Opening in theaters on Thursday, March 25, “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” tallied at a whopping $170.1 million domestically (U.S. and Canada) and $421.1 million globally, making it the top movie in the box office, beating the previous record set by “Deadpool.”
Overall, “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” was a great movie, regardless of the switch in actors.
In my opinion, this superhero movie deserves four stars out of five.
