‘Allegiant’ makes for a disappointing movie adaptation

The third installment of the Divergent series, “Allegiant,” premiered in theaters Friday, March 18.

The movie, unlike the others in the series, was not much of a hit with moviegoers or with me.

Shailene Woodley stars as Tris, a girl trying to fight for freedom and the truth. She and her loved ones, Tobias/Four (Theo James), Caleb (Ansel Elgort), and Christina (Zoe Kravitz), work to get free of the new oppressors, who were previously known as the factionless.

They journey outside of the wall to find the truth, but they are only met with more lies and conspiracies.

Although the acting was amazing, for some reason this movie did not strike a chord with me. It had all of the right elements for a good, action-packed movie, but there was something missing.

Being a lover of the books in this series, I think I did not enjoy the changes the writers made to the story. While the first two stuck close to the storyline, this movie was drastically different, changing way too much for my liking.

One thing that I did like more about the movie’s version of events was that Peter (Miles Teller) was more involved in the plot. The camerawork was also superb, with chilling images of the outside world and excellent angles to help heighten the effect of what viewers were seeing.

However, overall, I do not recommend this movie. It strayed far from Veronica Roth’s story and really cannot be compared to Roth’s beloved series.
