Marysa Gatica, sophomore, is ready for soccer.

Soccer has a new coach this year, Mr. Damiecko Smith, and Smith is looking to formulate a team with a solid core of players.

Smith is excited about coaching the team this year.

“I’m looking forward to having fun and putting Kearsley girls’ soccer on the map again,” Smith said.

Sophomore Marysa Gatica expressed her excitement for the upcoming season.

“I am looking forward to having a new coach because he will teach us new things,” Gatica said.

Smith is confident with the gifted players on the team, noting them as the foundations for the team.

“There are several players that will be instrumental in our success, including the core group that played last year,” Smith said.

Although Smith is confident for this year, he anticipates the team’s lack of “experienced players” as being a slight problem.

Gatica adds that as long as the Hornets work together they will be unstoppable.

“Our main winning factor will be our teamwork,” Gatica said.

Even though some of Gatica’s friends graduated, she looks forward to spending another season with her teammates.

“I am looking forward to this season with all my friends and a new coach,” Gatica said.
