March is Reading Month: Romance is in the air
Romance Novels
Books in this genre place their primary focus on the relationship and love between two people and usually end emotionally.
There can be other elements that move the story along, but in the end it is a story about two people finding their place in the world together.
“The Longest Ride”
Sophomore Lia Silvas speaks very highly of this book, which was written by Nicholas Sparks.
“It is a love story and these are simply my favorite kind of books, ” Silvas said.
The book is about a girl, Sophia, in college going to a rodeo to watch bull riding when she unexpectedly meets a professional bull rider and they fall in love. Little does she know that this new life could be taken just as quickly as she fell in love.
On their way home from their first date, the two find an old man in an accident and rush him to the hospital.
They find love letters in the man’s demolished car that he had written to his wife every day. Sadly, she passed away years before. The letters gave the young couple a sense of hope that true love is real.
This novel was published in September 2013 and is still drawing people into the romantic selection of library to this day.
“I highly recommend this book,” Silvas said.
“See Me”
This novel, also written by Sparks, was published in October 2015 and is still tampering with people’s emotions.
This novel is a favorite to junior Kassidy Krist. She said she loves Sparks and his inventiveness when coming up with new story ideas.
Krist said “See Me” is not a typical Sparks book in the sense that it catches your attention in a different way.
“This book is a mixture of a mystery and a love story,” Krist said. “It is very suspenseful, and I never wanted to put the book down. It also has a really good ending that is unexpected.”
Sparks creates two fictional characters with nothing in common and leads them together. The two young lovers immediately fall in love in a strange way.
“See me” is about a young man by the name of Colin Hancock who has not had the easiest life. His unbearable temper has lead him down the road of violent fights more times than he can count.
With the possibility of prison just around the corner, Hancock knows he has to change his course or he loses everything.
Now with a steady job and a stable place to live, Hancock’s main focus is creating a future that he can be proud of, as long as he can keep his anger in check.
Maria Sanchez was always the girl with the highest marks in school and the best of opportunities when she got out of college. She was the one everyone strived to be.
Sanchez lands position with the district attorney straight out of law school. She is overwhelmed with emotions because being an adult is nothing like she expected it to be. Sanchez hopes she can find love but is anxious to go out and look for it.
Hancock and Sanchez cross paths and desperately jump at the sight of love, each hoping that it is the best for both of them as they grow into their adult lives.
Krist highly recommends this book for a good read.
