Women deserve equal pay with men
American women will not see equal pay anytime soon.
As an upcoming college student who intends to get a good job, it bothers me that I can go get the same degree that a man can, but the man would make more money than me.
Women getting paid unfairly is not a myth. It is true.
Women deserve equal pay.
They make up nearly half of the work force in America.
The percentage of women working in America is 47 percent while men make up 53 percent.
There will always be an argument on why women do not deserve equal pay.
Some people say, “Women need time off for pregnancy. They do not have anyone to watch their children. They do not work as hard as men.”
I can say with confidence that women are just as capable as men.
Sure, there is not as many women doing construction or factory jobs as men, but they can do them.
Women can be doctors, lawyers, or CEOs, just like men.
But a woman CEO would be paid less than a man in the same position.
American women who work full time, year round are paid only 79 cents for every dollar paid to men — and for women of color, the wage gap is even larger.
That is a 21 cent difference for every dollar a man makes.
For women and men just getting into their careers, it would take a woman longer to pay off her student debts.
How does this thinking work?
Women and men pay equal tuition costs, but when they finally get their degrees, women earn less than men.
Oh, let us not forget that if you are a woman of color, you are paid even less.
Many women do not know that they are paid less than their male colleagues.
Even Hollywood actresses are paid less than their star-studded counterparts.
In 1963, when the Equal Pay Act was passed, full-time working women were paid 59 cents on average for every dollar paid to men.
Women need to start demanding equal pay.
For those against the equal pay of women, let me ask you this, “Why?”
Why are you against it? Are women not worthy of being paid the same as men?
If I go to school and earn the same degree as a man, do I not deserve to be paid the same as the man does?
This is the United States of America, where we are born free and are equal to everyone else.
Except when it comes to pay. Men get paid more than woman.
In 2011, a typical 25-year-old, full-time working woman earned $5,000 dollars less than a typical 25-year-old, full-time man.
By age 65, women will have lost $431,000 because of the pay gap.
Women deserve equal pay.
Women get their jobs just as equally as men do — they graduate high school, go to college, and get a degree.
The gender pay gap is real and needs to be eliminated.
