Tarrence places seventh at state final, earns All-State honors

After six wrestlers advanced to the individual state final, one earned All-State honors.

Junior Dylan Tarrence placed seventh in the 160-pound division, giving him All-State status by placing in the top eight.

The MHSAA individual state finals took place March 3-5 at the Palace of Auburn Hills with Kearsley competing in Division 2.

Tarrence won two of his matches and lost two.

Tarrence defeated Brady Bischer from Yale in his final match of the season.

Last year, Tarrence lost in the second round.

Five other Hornets also competed.

Among those who competed was sophomore Andy Ruhstorfer.

During the preliminaries on Thursday, March 3,  Ruhstorfer claimed his 100th career win.

Ruhstorfer defeated his first opponent 9-7.

Ruhstorfer lost in the second round to Corey Gamet of Parma Western.

In the 112 weight class, junior Zach Elizondo lost in the third round.

Elizondo defeated two opponents before losing to Austin Franco of Stevensville.

Coi Jenkins, senior, was knocked out in the second round in the 125-pound division.

Jenkins’ opponent, Hunter Vargo from Edwardsburg, won by a fall within three minutes.

Senior Travis Wildfong lost in the third round to Chase Veydt in the 140 weight class.

Wildfong defeated two opponents before being beaten 7-4.

Veydt went on to place fourth.

Malik Davis, sophomore, competed in the 145-pound division.

Davis lost in the second round 12-9 to Lucus Pienton of Cedar Springs.
