‘How to be Single’ is surprisingly fresh
“How to be Single” is fresh and has a new twist on romantic comedies.
Usually Hollywood releases sappy, cliche date movies around Valentine’s Day but “How to be Single” is not one of them.
Aimed toward a female audience, this film lets women see that it is OK to be single, even on Valentine’s Day.
Dakota Johnson breaks free from the chains that “Fifty Shades of Grey” (2015) put on her acting career in this film.
Rebel Wilson and Leslie Mann also star alongside Johnson in this refreshing film.
It has many strong female actors, all with different occupations, making the movie diverse and not just limited to one character.
While Johnson’s acting ability is showcased in this film in a way that is wasn’t in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” Wilson brings a lot of the comedy to this movie, which is great because she is naturally hilarious.
Besides the comedy, there are rather emotional parts that pull on the audience’s heart strings.
Overall, this movie is worth the watch.
Everyone can find something or someone to relate to in this movie, single or not.
Dakota Johnson plays Alice, college grad who just moved to New York to start a job as a paralegal.
She also just decided to take a break from her long-term boyfriend. She wants to know what it is like to be single.
Robin (Wilson), a free woman who is not afraid to get down, helps Alice navigate through New York and her new single life.
As the movie progresses, Alice breaks out of her shy, sweet shell and becomes a fierce woman who realizes things can be accomplished, single or not.
This movie is a must see.
I give it four out of five stars.
