Boys’ basketball loses to Holly, beats Swartz Creek on last-second shot
The boys’ basketball team split its last two games. Here’s a recap.
Friday, Jan. 29
The Hornets won the game with a buzzer-beating shot, beating Swartz Creek 67-65 on Friday, Jan. 29.
Kearsley had held a small lead for the first half of the game 38-26.
In the last minute of the game, the Hornets and Dragons were tied at 65.
In order to win the game, the Hornets had to score at least one more point.
With the pressure on, senior Deitrick Young received the ball from his teammate and with a second of hesitation, the whole gym paused.
Young took the shot.
The ball rolled around the rim and fell in, causing the Kearsley crowd to go wild.
Sophomore Devyn Sredich led the Hornets with six solid rebounds on the offensive and defensive end.
Sophomore Taveon Harris had five steals against the Dragons.
Junior Chandler Ford, captain, had six assists to his teammates.
Ford also knocked down two three-point shots.
Tuesday, Feb. 2
After a successful game against the Dragons, the Hornets fell to Holly for the second time, losing 79-42.
The Bronchos were confident and knocked down shots with ease.
Broncho’s senior Kyle Woodruff sunk his 1,000th point against Kearsley on Tuesday, Feb. 2.
Woodruff broke the record that was last beat in 1994 at his school.
Kearsley struggled to stop Woodruff from shooting.
The Hornets (3-9 overall, 2-7 league) take on Flushing this Friday at Flushing High School at 7:30 p.m.
