“Romeo and Juliet” is playing at UM-Flint.

Kearsley’s thespian officers were delighted by the UM-Flint production of “Romeo and Juliet” on Friday, Nov. 6.

Thespian officers are those who hold office positions within the International Thespian Society, the Educational Theatre Association’s student honorary organization.

ITS recognizes the achievements of high school and middle school theater students.

Mr. John Hall, theater director, was delighted with the performance by UM-Flint’s actors.

“UM-Flint always puts on a great show,” Hall said.”They can make something as overdone as ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and make it humor-full.”

Hall also thought that it was a great experience for these thespian officers.

“It was a great opportunity for these students to see the diversity of the theater,” Hall said.”They were able to see multiple aspects of theater from costumes, to sets and props, to even the acting itself.”

Many UM-Flint students who were in the production seemed to have a good time during the performance, especially the lead character, Romeo.

The student who played Romeo was responsible for the majority of modernizing the Shakespearean classic.

The student took the old script and put some modern language into the production so it would not be as hard for people to understand.

The officers thought that it really helped them get deeper into the story of Romeo and Juliet. Those who attended the production really enjoyed this rendition of Shakespeare’s classic.

Thespian treasurer Rian Schulz, a junior, savored the experience.

“It was the best version of ‘Romeo and Juliet’ I have ever seen,” Schulz said. “It was really easy to watch.”
