‘The Martian’ captivates moviegoers

“The Martian” debuted in theaters on Friday, Oct. 2.

“The Martian” opened in theaters Friday, Oct. 2, and I highly recommend this movie to any science fiction lovers or to anyone who is looking for a unique movie.

The movie opens with Melissa Lewis (Jessica Chastain) and her team of astronauts on Mars.

A bad storm hits the planet and causes them to evacuate. While rushing to the ship, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is hit with debris and is presumed dead after not responding.

The day after the storm, he wakes up, wounded, but alive.

While trying to signal Earth to tell them he is alive, he must figure out how to make food and water on a planet that has no resources. Watney knows that the next mission to Mars will not happen for multiple years, so he must prepare for the worst.

Now, onto the review.

I did not read the book, so I was pretty much going into this movie blind. I feel like Hollywood perfectly captured “The Martian” and its science fiction genre.

The movie explained the terminology NASA uses so the audience could keep up with it. If it hadn’t, the audience would have been slightly confused, so the directors did well with that.

Matt Damon is a well-known actor who is a favorite among a lot of moviegoers. His role in this movie was, to me, absolutely perfect.

He captured the audience’s attention and you could really feel how he was feeling – alone and isolated.

Another character who really stood out to me was Melissa Lewis, the commander of the mission.

While trying to escape the storm, Mark Watney was hit, and even though she knew her life was in danger, she went back to look for him.

With her crew warning her that the storm was getting worse, she reluctantly had to escape, but the audience knew it pained her to leave Mark behind.
