The boys’ cross country team finished seventh in the Frankenmuth Invitational on Thursday, Sept. 24, with 186 points.

Cass City won the meet, scoring 34 points.

Sophomore Donald Martin was the No. 1 runner for the Hornets. The harrier finished his 5K race in 20:31.64 on one of the most challenging courses they will face all year.

Coach Paul Adas is encouraged by the strides Martin has made.

“Donald continues to improve and has consistently been the team’s No. 1 runner,” Adas said.  “I am encouraged by his improvement and I believe he can become an upper tier runner if he runs more miles during the summer off season.”

Senior Deontae Webster finished soon after in 20:59.26, and sophomore Jack Vollmar followed with 21:19.45.

Martin finished 24th overall and Webster finished 32nd, both earning medals. Vollmar finished 44th.

The girls’ team did compete in the meet but were unable to field the minimum five runners.

Senior Diane Bond led the girls, running a 24:55.26, and junior Alexis Kelly came in at 25:00.38.

Bond and Kelly won medals, finishing 36th and 39th, respectively.

The teams compete next Thursday, Sept. 30, at the second Flint Metro League Jamboree at Holly.
