Are the Chiefs favored by the NFL? In a recent NFL game the Detroit Lions fell to the Kansas City Chiefs 17-30 on October 12, 2025 at Arrowhead Stadium. The Lions goal was to keep the Chiefs strong offense off of the field.
The Lion’s first offensive drive took almost 10 minutes off the clock! It was looking good for the Lions until the ball was on the goal line and running back David Montgomery threw the ball to quarterback Jared Goff for a touchdown! Or so they thought it was a touchdown. After officials came together they ruled the touchdown illegal. This forced the Lions to settle for 3 points instead of 7, and also took away Lions momentum.
This was the start of all the controversy. Throughout the game Lions fans complained about many missed calls on the Chiefs as the Chiefs continued to dominate the game. Lions fans were livid about the game and blamed the loss on the refs. An important statistic to keep in mind is the Chiefs had not one flag the entire game which very rarely happens. Lions fan Jameson Vanier has a fascinating opinion about the game.
“ The calls were the right call but the timing is what made the calls seem really bad. Like the goal line call was the right call but was inconvenient timing.”
Former Kearlsey student, Ethan Sellers, who is a Seattle Seahawks fan was asked if the refs cost the Lions the game against the Chiefs. What he had to say was different from everyone else’s opinion.
“The Lions lost by 2 scores anyways, so a few calls wouldn’t have made a difference. Even if the first touchdown didn’t get called back they still would have lost 30-24.”
So did the officials effect the game to the point it determined the outcome or did the Lions lose fairly?
