Last Friday night, October 4th, the Kearsley Hornets persevered through their homecoming game. The game started at 7pm, but by 6:30, the stands were already packed with spirited students and proud parents. Alumni came to cheer with the cheerleaders, all eager for the team to win this game. The boys started the season off with a win, then had a few losses. Everyone was unsure about what the outcome of the game would be. The crowd was loud that night. They had the student section yelling cheers to motivate their team, the cheerleaders cheering to get everyone, including the team, hyped up.
The boys started off in the lead. They scored one touchdown and they were all very excited about it. Reporters asked junior Aiden Tipton what he felt after he scored the first touchdown of the homecoming game. “I could feel the positive energy coming from the stands. I also felt and knew that my teammates had my back. I wanted the ball, so after I got that touchdown, I wanted more,” he stated. Then number 11, Jaxon Palmer, went for a 2-point conversion and made it successfully. That added to the crowds excitement and they went wild.
As everyone watched the game, they were on the edge of their seats. Holly didn’t score any touchdowns before halftime. Then number 7, Dakota Wagner, made a 65 yard rushing touchdown. The crowd was booming with excitement. Kearsley decided to go with a kick for the extra point after this touchdown. They were successful with their attempt and that made the score 15-0.
Fourth quarter then began. The boys were giving this game their all. They really wanted this win. The Bronchos scored a touchdown. The score then changed to 15-8 after they went for a 2-point conversion. The crowd was shocked. But, this didn’t stop the boys, they kept playing their best. The offense got the ball, but unfortunately lost it. The Holly Bronchos got it back and made another touchdown, but missed their kick for the extra point. The crowd was watching in suspense. People were thinking that Holly might make a comeback. Then, the defense showed the crowd that they had this game. The boys did not let that team in the end zone. The clock ran out and the crowd roared. The student section stormed the field. They were so happy that the boys won this game, but not just any game, their 2024 Homecoming game.
