Students wait to leave school due to the blackout on March 31.

On March 31, students were let out of school at 9 a.m. because of a power outage.

Branches on a main power line had caught on fire, causing one leg of power that feeds the school to shut down.

With only a few lights working in various areas throughout the high school, Kearsley administrators gave students what they hoped for — a shortened day.

Senior Makeznie Chapell was excited about the unique event that shut the school down early.

“It wasn’t a snow day we got,” Chapell said. “It was a blackout.”

However, some students were disappointed that school was let out early.

Senior Emilee Mason, a tennis player, was not thrilled with the shortened day.

Mason looked forward to playing her match that afternoon, but it was cancelled.

The match was rescheduled for April 1.
