Kearsley makes history, wins playoff game two years in a row

Thursday, Oct. 29, the Hornets took on the Clio Mustangs in the opening round of the MHSAA Division 3 playoffs, beating them 61-0.

Last season, the Hornets ended the 21 year playoff drought beating Brother Rice. This year the Hornets make history by making it to the MHSAA Division 3 semifinals in back to back seasons.

Senior Braylon Silvas had a career high of having his hand in eight touchdowns, three passing and five rushing.

Silvas went 8-16 with 152 yards and only one interception.

Senior Jace Chapman was Silvas’ favorite target as he caught four passes for 70 yards and a touchdown.

Senior Michael Gibson and junior Derrick Phipps also aided Silvas with three passing touchdowns.

The Hornets were up at halftime 40-0 proving to the Mustangs that they were truly in charge.

The Hornets ran the ball 16 times for an impressive 240 yards averaging 15 yards per carry.

Kearsley ended the first round with a huge win showing their competition they are a real threat.

The Hornets will be back at home against Bay City Central Friday Nov. 6 for the district semifinals.
