Spend time with loved ones on International Day of Families
Everybody has a family of their own, whether it’s their biological family or not.
Families go through many rough patches, and they aren’t always perfect. But they should still be appreciated since everybody comes from somewhere.
Wednesday, May 15, is the International Day of Families, a day for everyone to celebrate their own heritages and loved ones.
According to Awareness Days, this holiday was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 1993.
The goal of this holiday is to promote awareness about economic, demographic, and social processes that affect families all over the globe.
The day gives citizens and governments the chance to create events that raise awareness and focus on areas of importance and interest to families.
The holiday isn’t just about having fun with your own family but also helping others.
People who would like to help others could donate to a charitable organization or a family in need.
There are many different types of families, so each year the holiday is celebrated with a different theme.
Sophomore Alexi Renshaw thinks her family is sometimes a pain, but she loves them anyway.
“My family can be pretty stressful and a huge pain in the butt,” Renshaw said. “But, no matter what, they are always there for me, and I love them more than anything.”
If you have not yet celebrated the International Day of Families with your loved ones, then it can be a new and fun thing to try.
There are many different ways to celebrate, depending on what you and your family prefer.
You could spend quality time without cellphones or maybe spend time with family you don’t see often.
You could celebrate with a nice day outside, having a picnic at a park or grilling in your backyard.
The International Day of Families could also be celebrated by having a bonfire with s’mores and singing.
You could also have a family movie night. Go out and rent a movie on Redbox, or choose a show on Netflix, Hulu, or Vudu.
Enjoy your International Day of Families, and make sure to have fun with your loved ones at home.
