Students have a second chance to donate blood

The Red Cross will be giving students a second chance to donate blood on April 2.

Students who are 16 years or older are able to donate blood if they meet the height and weight requirements, which can be found on the Red Cross website.

Sign-ups for time slots to donate blood, registration packets, and permission slips are currently in the cafeteria during all lunch periods.

Senior Evan Flood donated blood for the first time in December 2013.

“All I felt was a little poke in my arm,” Flood said. “Other than that, I did not feel anything.”

At the blood drive, students will have to answer multiple questions about their health history and a mini physical will be administered.

Once the students reach certain health requirements, about a pint of blood will be drawn, along with several test tubes of blood.

After that, students are able to enjoy snacks to help compensate for their loss of blood.

If not enough students sign up to donate blood, then the Red Cross will cancel the drive.

“I think people should donate blood,” Flood said. “It saves lives.”
