Though gas prices have been reasonably low lately, teenagers may still struggle to pay for gas. Luckily, there are easy ways to conserve gas and money.

1) Car pool

If possible, catch a ride with someone who is going to the same place as you. It will help your pocket and the environment.

2) Gas saving cards and discounts

Some gas stations have cards you can apply for to save cents on gallons of gas.

For example, One Stop offers a rewards card that gives you 6 cents off a gallon. If you pay with cash at Marathon, you automatically save 5 cents per gallon. If you do not carry cash, you can load money onto a gift card to use for the 5-cent discount as well.

3) Alternate forms of transportation

It is not always necessary to drive everywhere you go. If you live near a grocery store, it will not kill you to walk to pick up a gallon of milk, and it will save you money.

4) Cruise control

Constantly pressing the break and gas pedals can lower your gas mileage.

If you are taking a long trip, it is a good idea to put your car into cruise control. This will keep a consistent speed and will not use as much gas as a fluctuating speed.

5) Find the cheapest gas prices

Before you leave to fill up your tank, search the cheapest gas prices in your area. An easy way to search gas prices is on GasBuddy.com.

Some gas stations typically have lower prices than others. If you can get gas for $2 per gallon rather than $2.20 a gallon, you should take the opportunity.
