Ramey wins shot put at Davison Twilight Classic
The girls track and field team finished in eighth place Friday, May 11, at the Davison Twilight Classic.
Linden took first in the medium-sized schools division with 234 points, Corunna placed second with 224, and St. Johns scored 210 points, which placed them in third.
Out of 17 events, Kearsley only had athletes participate in six of them, with athletes placing in four.
In the field events, two Hornets scored, which was placing in the top six. One was in shot put and one was in discus.
Junior Mackenzie Ramey took first in shot put with a throw of 38 feet, 7 inches, which was more than 5 feet better then the second-place athlete.
Mary Wheeler, junior, tossed the discus 78-08, which placed her sixth.
Kearsley’s 400-meter relay team, consisting of sophomores Amelia Boggs, Jakeira Wash, Sierra Walker, and Stacia Tipton, took sixth place with a time of 56.82 seconds.
Senior Madison Jordan ran the 400 in a total of 1:09.54, which placed her in sixth.
The Hornets will compete in an MHSAA regional meet at Clio on Friday, May 18, at 3 p.m.
