Quiz bowl finishes places fourth in Metro League tournament

Quiz bowl took fourth place in the Metro League tournament on Wednesday, March 14.

The team opened the competition against Lapeer, downing the Lightning 365-150.

Sophomore Connor Earegood answered 11 of the team’s questions and sophomore Chris Moyer answered five to propel the team to the next round against Flushing.

But Flushing proved too difficult for the Hornets to beat, winning by a score of 250-175.

The teams were tied at the end of the toss-up bonus round, but a difficult worksheet round on French derailed the Hornets.

The Hornets outlasted Swartz Creek in their third match, winning 220-195.

Earegood and Moyer continued to lead the team in answers, while sophomore Cameron Gohs was critical for the team’s bonus answers.

The Hornets faced Oxford in the quarterfinal, losing 210-175.

The team came within a question of making the semifinal but was eliminated from the competition.

Sophomore Grant Sterling answered multiple questions about literature to keep the team close to Oxford, including a question about the novel “Brave New World” by Aldous Huxley.

The tournament was the team’s last competition. The team finished the season with a record of 12-4.
