Lunar trifecta takes place January 31

Attention all stargazers, mark your calendars for Wednesday, Jan. 31, because there is an amazing sight to see that morning. It is what NASA is calling a “super blue blood moon.”

This natural phenomenon has not happened since 1866.

This event is special because three beautiful natural occurrences are all happening at once.

There is a blood moon, the second full moon in one month, a super moon, where the moon is closer to earth and casts a brighter glow, and it is a total lunar eclipse, which will make the glow of the moon take on a reddish tint while it is in earth’s shadow. Hence the name, super blue blood moon.

According to NASA, the moon will be about 14 percent brighter than usual, thanks to the super moon.

According to Time and Date, citizens of Flint and surrounding cities can see the total lunar eclipse starting around 7:45 a.m., but it is recommended to go to a high place or an open area to see it the best since the moon will be so close to the horizon.

If you are not in an area that gives you a good view of the sky, NASA will stream a live feed of this phenomenon take place.

You can view this live feed on NASA TV.  The feed will begin at 5:30 a.m. and will end at 10 a.m.
