Senior Cami Clarambeau, senior class president, visits the new venue of prom.

The 2017 prom, originally scheduled for May 13, has been rescheduled due to lack of funding.

After rumors began about the price of prom tickets being raised, Cami Clarambeau, senior class president, and fellow student council members have confirmed that this year’s funding has been canceled for the prom.

“I feel like I have let down my class because I thought I had spaced out the money just right to have a great prom,” Clarambeau said. “When we went to check the budget, we didn’t even have enough for a prom in our gym.”

Seniors in Student Council knew that this was going to cause an uproar of issues among the Senior Class, so they have announced that an unofficial prom will now be Saturday, June 10, at Richfield Park from  7-11 p.m. with no admission fee.

Senior class vice president Loren Jolin thinks this will be a new trend for many proms to come.

“I am excited to be the first class to get to do something so different for prom,” Jolin said.

The new prom date comes with a new prom theme — Starry Night.

“Someone joked about hoping it was nice outside the night of prom,” Jolin said. “And we came up with Starry Night. I thought it fit really well.”

Since their is no admission fee, Claramabeau and Jolin ask that everyone brings a dish to pass for a potluck dinner or people should go out to eat before the prom.

Everyone can still get dressed up or come in moral casual wear.

Let’s make this the most memorable prom Kearsley has ever had.
