The wrestling team lost its first match in district competition to No. 3-ranked St. Johns 38-36 on Wednesday, Feb. 8.

Seniors that won their match for the day were Dylan Tarrence, Reese Harburn, Brandon Byczynski, Marcus Moss, and Zach Elizondo.

Junior Malik Davis and sophomore LaRon Ruffin also scored victories.

Even though the Hornets lost, Byczynski was still proud of his team.

“It was a tough meet, but we wrestled hard and almost beat the (third) ranked team in the state. Win or lose, our team still did our best and gave it our all,” Byczynski said.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, Kearsley’s individual district will be held at Gaylord.
