Girls can enjoy being single
It seems as though having a high school social life for girls revolves around the idea of having a significant other. There are couples who are the epitome of relationship goals, and there are those who swear they’ll never be in a relationship.
Either way, there’s still a stigma and a sense of shame centered around the idea of being single. But being alone doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You don’t need a boyfriend to enjoy yourself.
And since your time shouldn’t be spent being bitter about not having a partner, here are five things you can do without a boyfriend.
Before continuing, please put on your black leotard, tease your hair, channel your inner Beyoncé, and embrace your Single Ladies vibe.
1.) Go Out with Friends
There isn’t any reason you can’t spend quality time with some friends when you are looking for a fun time. Get all your friends together and plan a day you’ll never forget.
You could go to your local mall and visit all of your favorite stores. Shops like Charlotte Russe and and Forever 21 will be filled with trendy clothes and good sales.
If the mall isn’t your thing, you could go see one of the latest movies. (Maybe not a romantic comedy though because all the couples will be there.)
A good comedy will put you in a great mood. Really, sitting through an entire film filled with jokes and laughter is guaranteed to put a smile on your face.
If you’re looking for something active to waste the day away, you can meet up with some friends at the bowling alley or ice rink. Spending the afternoon trying to get a strike, or attempting to stay upright on your skates is a fun alternative to sulking alone wishing for a partner.
Goofing around with friends is a great way to spend the day. Don’t focus on who you don’t have, focus on who you do have.
2.) Stay In and Relax
Sometimes going out and being around people is a bit too much. If you feel like this, there’s no shame in changing into your most comfortable pajamas and sitting in front of the television for a few hours.
Indulge in some feel-good movies like “the Parent Trap” or “Freaky Friday.” Binge-watch some Netflix and catch up on “Fuller House.”
Maybe you’ve been procrastinating on reading a book. Sit down with a big cup of cocoa and finish that book. Getting lost in a novel is a great way to pass the day away.
Today is your day and you deserve some peace and relaxation.
3.) Learn Something New
There are thousands of Do-It-Yourself tutorials online you could try. Make a nice charcoal face mask to get that glowing skin you’ve been wanting. Or make some homemade eyeliner and perfect your cat eye look.
You’ll feel so confident wearing your new makeup that you wont want anybody else. You made yourself feel and look good, and that’s all you need.
Channel your inner Picasso and paint a masterpiece. If you don’t want to try out your own artistic abilities, visit a museum or gallery like the Flint Institute of Arts. There are so many things to learn when you’re willing to try.
Pick up a hobby, find an interest, and get into something different.
4.) Make Some Food
With no job and no allowance, baking up your own amazing desserts are a great alternative to blowing all your money on store-bought doughnut holes.
You could stick with a pre-made mix of peanut butter cookies, or maybe a triple chocolate brownie mix. Or you could roll up your sleeves and make a batch of cookies from scratch. It’s a lot of work, but they taste so much better knowing how much work you put into them.
You could invite some friends over and have an icing party. Frosting and decorating sugar cookies isn’t just for Christmas. Find some frosting, food coloring, and rainbow sprinkles and you’ll have Martha Stewart knocking on your door for the recipe.
5.) Focus on Yourself
Every day of the year should involve some kind of indulgence you can look forward to. This can range from something small like wearing your favorite pair of shoes to treating yourself to a nice dinner at Olive Garden. Taking care of yourself is an important part of life and, unfortunately, some people don’t make it a priority.
This time of year gets a lot of people in a bad mood, but you shouldn’t let it. Your love life does not define who you are as a person. Being single gives you the opportunity to work on yourself and learn how to love who you are as a person.
When you learn to love yourself and value your self worth, you’ll be able to appreciate the essence of life and live your life to the fullest.
