Soccer steals one from Clio in shootout
The soccer team swarmed Clio’s field on Monday, May 23, defeating the Mustangs.
Freshman Chloe Vollmar scored her first goal of the season and the first goal of the night for the Hornets, in regulation, which ended in a 1-1 tie.
After Vollmar’s goal the game went to a shootout. Junior Alexis Kelly and sophomore Marysa Gatica both scored, giving Kearsley the victory against the Mustangs.
Vollmar was thrilled to score.
“I was very excited to score my first goal of the season,” Vollmar said. “It was really cool when my teammates ran on the field and congratulated me.”
Vollmar said that her coach, Mr. Damiecko Smith, played a big role in making her the player she is today.
“My coach was a big reason why I scored last night,” Vollmar said. “He taught me how to shoot the ball properly and, most importantly, he never gave up on me.”
The Hornets play next at Owosso High School, Tuesday, May 31.
