Girls’ track looks to increase its speed
Monday, March 14, marked the first day of practice for the girls’ track team.
But do not be put off by the official date, John Hall, girls’ track coach, encourages athletes to come out any time during the week.
Hall looks forward to improving his teams’ speed this season and has high hopes for his returning athletes.
Hall anticipates a competitive 1600-meter relay team this year and hopes that it will break 4:15.
The relay team will consist of seniors Diane Bond, Miranda Lumetta, and Emalie Lewis, as well as junior Ave’r McKay.
Senior Miranda Lumetta is also coming off a good year of jumping.
“She set a PR (personal record) in nearly every contest,” Hall said.
Lumetta suffered a severe knee injury during volleyball season, but she has not let it stop her, she is recovering through physical therapy.
She hopes to finish out her high school career with a successful season.
“I am looking forward to my final track season,” Lumetta said. “Track is one of my favorite sports, so I am working to overcome this injury.”
Hall also looks forward to athletes finding an interest in long jump, high jump, and pole vault.
