Senior Hannah Ploof is proud of the bowling team’s performance over the weekend.

The girls’ bowling team defeated Clio 28-2 on Saturday, Feb. 6.

The Hornets came out of the Baker games with a 10-0 lead, heading into the individual games.

In the first set of individual games, the Hornets won all nine points, but in the second they only scored seven.

The top bowlers of the day were seniors Hannah Ploof, with games of 206 and 190, and Alexxa Flood, with pinfalls of 195 and 180.

Ploof feels the team did not perform as well as it should have.

“I feel like we could have bowled better,” Ploof said. “We are better bowlers than our scores showed.”

Singles Tournament

Girls’ bowling placed second in the Carman-Ainsworth Singles Tournament on Sunday, Feb. 7.

Eight girls were entered into the tournament for the first round, and seven bowlers were able to advance to the second round: senior Hannah Ploof (third seed), freshman Alexis Roof (12th), senior Kayla Ward (13th), sophomore Emma Boychuk (24th), freshman Mary Wheeler (26th), and sophomore Karlee Griffin (28th).

In the second round, where only 16 bowlers advanced, Kearsley had four girls make it: Ploof, Roof, Flood and Griffin.

For the next round, the quarterfinals, only Ploof and Roof remained.

Ploof survived the quarterfinal and won her semifinal to advance to the championship round.

However, Ploof was unable to come out victorious as she has the past three years, and ended up coming in second to Lapeer’s Brooklyn Withey.

“I’m pretty proud,” Ploof said. “I mean, I didn’t win. But I did make it to the finals, and that is a big accomplishment.”

The Hornets compete next on Saturday, Feb. 13, against Fenton and Brandon at Cherry Hill Lanes.
