The girls’ bowling team took first at the Flint Metro League Championship Tournament.

The girls’ bowling team won the Flint Metro League Championship Tournament on Sunday, Jan. 17, for the third time in four years.

Although they got off to a slow start, the Hornets managed to bowl the highest Baker games of all girls in the state this season by the end of the tournament.

Seniors Hannah Ploof and Alexxa Flood led the team with the highest series pinfalls of 707 and 671, respectively.

The tournament featured several top teams in the state.

The runner-up was Bay City John Glenn. Third place went to Tecumseh, while Davison finished in fourth.

Ploof believes that the key to success is to focus on the team’s achievements rather than an individual’s achievements.

“I try not to focus on my individual score because we’re in a team tournament,” Ploof said. “It’s about the team so I think not focusing on it (an individual’s success) helps to just let it happen.”

Ploof is happy with the team’s performance and hopes that the Hornets will continue to win.

“I feel that we worked really well together,” Ploof said. “And we’ve been practicing really hard lately. I feel like it’s really starting to pay off.”

The Sunday tournament was preceded by a dual match the day before, where the Hornets faced Flushing on Saturday, Jan. 16, and won 29-1.

Kearsley remains unbeaten in league play, at 7-0, and is in first place in the Metro League.
