New football coach will teach physical education

Mr. Jeremy Ferman has been hired as the new head football coach and physical education teacher at KHS.

Ferman will be the second head football coach that Kearsley has hired in the past three years.

Mr. Paul Gaudard, athletics director, was thrilled to hire Ferman.

“One thing that really impressed me about Mr. Ferman was his commitment to being on the cutting edge of the newest trends and research in physical education and strength and conditioning,” Gaudard said.

Ferman studied at Central Michigan University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education and health education.

He has been the health and physical education teacher at Durand High School since the beginning of the 2015-2016 school year.

Before teaching at Durand, he taught P.E. at Almont Community Schools. He was also the head football coach at Almont from 2004-2014.

Ferman coached the Raiders through eight playoff appearances and five Blue Water Conference championships.

While at Almont, his teams won three MHSAA district championships, two regional titles, and advanced to the state final in 2004 and 2014.

Gaudard thinks Ferman could just be what the football team needs in a coach.

“Based on his 16 years of experience teaching and his passion for the sport of football, Ferman is the most qualified candidate for the position,” Gaudard said.

Ferman has been acknowledged for his coaching prowess several times.

He was honored by the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association for being the Division 5 state coach of the year.

He was also named MHSFCA regional coach of the year four times.

Junior Hunter Stanley was on the football team his junior year, and is looking forward to playing next year.

“I think that he can do good things,” Stanley said. “I think we will have a better season than last year.”
