Softball takes two against Powers, splits with Linden

The softball team traveled to and swept Powers Catholic in a doubleheader on Wednesday, May 3, after splitting a doubleheader the Hornets hosted against Linden on Tuesday, May 2.

Kearsley 7, Powers 3

Kearsley took the win in the first game against Powers.

Senior Brittney Dick and freshman Claire Ouellette led the team offensively with three hits apiece with both hitting a double.

Junior Olivia Dunsmore pitched a complete game, giving up three earned runs and striking out two.

Kearsley 5, Powers 1

The Hornets dominated defensively to get the win.

Junior Katie Lewis took the mound in the nightcap, striking out three.

“I enjoy pitching the most of all positions I play,” Lewis said. “When I am pitching, I have to block out what everyone is yelling and just focus.”

Junior Kaitlin Foco, Dick, and Ouellette led the team, each having two hits.

Kearsley 23, Linden 16

In the first game, both teams had a strong offense, but Kearsley came out on top.

Foco hit two home runs, her first of the season.

“When I hit the first home run, it was exciting. But when I hit the second one, it was even better,” Foco said. “It was great to not only help my team get the win but to get the momentum going.”

Sophomore Halle Parish led the team with five hits. Ouellette and Foco contributed with four hits.

Lewis pitched a complete game, giving up 14 earned runs and striking out four.

Kearsley 13, Linden 19

In the nightcap, the Eagles took the win over the Hornets.

Freshman Alexis Echols and Lewis each contributed three hits and three RBI. Ouellette also had three RBI.

Dunsmore gave up six earned runs, and Ouellette gave up eight earned runs and struck out one.

The Hornets are now 8-6 overall, 6-2 in the league.

Kearsley will host a doubleheader against Brandon on Monday, May 8.
