Warm weather, longer days, and the sun is out. The best signs that summer is right around the corner. No more school for three long, beautiful months. But with all that free time, you’ve got to wonder what your fellow peers are up to. What do people do in the summer? Most people are either going to the beach/pool, having a picnic/barbecuing, and hanging out with friends.

For Sofia Sporman, a freshman, she will be traveling to different states this summer, including Las Vegas. It is pretty common for Sporman and her family to travel to different places throughout the summer months, and now, Sporman can add new states to her list of where she has been. When asked what she looks forward to this summer, Sporman said, “What I look forward to this summer is the road trip and spending time with my family, getting to experience different bonds with my family in new and exciting places.”
When junior Waasnodeh Davis-Hernandez was asked what her summer plans were, she said, “I’ll be going to North Dakota to visit my grandfather’s side of the family where we will go to a cultural ceremony.” Davis-Hernandez and her family visited the same ceremony two summers ago. However, there will be some new aspects to her trip. While in North Dakota, Davis-Hernandez will be visiting distant family members she has never met before. She will also be given the opportunity to learn more about her culture she did not know before. “I look forward to being involved in a sacred ceremony that’s not even taught in

history books.” These ceremonies are sacred to Davis-Hernandez and her culture, meaning she can’t share the traditions for the ceremony.
Taylor Canamore, senior, will be starting a new chapter of her life this summer. Canamore will be traveling to west Michigan, by the water, with her family and friends. But the biggest thing in her life this summer will be her getting ready for college in the fall. “Something new I will be doing this summer is heading off to college all by myself, but most importantly, learning how to do more things by myself,” said Canamore. In the fall, she will be attending Olivet University to continue her soccer career and major in forensic psychology and minoring in criminal justice. “I look forward to making it the best last summer before college by spending time with my friends and family, just enjoying every minute.”
Life in the states has been a new experience for Rose Oleson, classified senior, but now she will be going back home to

Denmark. “The biggest thing I will do this summer is go home to my family and friends after 10 months away,” said Oleson. While she has enjoyed her visit to the U.S., Oleson is ready to go home and have everything go back to normal. However, Oleson will be doing more than just going home, “I will be going on a little trip around Denmark with my oldest friend and I haven’t done that before.” All in all, life for Oleson has been an adventure the last 10 months, and she doesn’t plan on ending that adventure even as she returns home to Denmark.
