There are 2 foreign language classes here at Kearsley High School, one being Spanish and the other being French. These are 2 great classes with great teachers as well. Spanish, most would say is the most common language to be learned in schools in America but, just like Spanish, there are many interesting things to learn in a French class. Some of these students from Kearsley High School can indeed confirm this.
Senior, Kaylee Presley, finds French culture so interesting because of “how different they are from America and have a very different culture.” Presley’s favorite memory of French class was when they went on a French field trip to see “Le Mis.” When asked what Presley’s favorite word to say in French she replied, “My favorite word is bonjour because it’s what always comes to mind.” However, the most difficult part is learning the “passé compose.”
Senior, Alexandria Elumbaugh, was in France for 2 years. She explains, “One thing that I love about French culture is characterized by values of quality and unity, a store sense of style and sophistication, appreciation of artistry, and a deep emphasis on family.” Elumbaugh’s favorite memory of French class was when former French teacher, Madam Yorks, would do random dances and would play French songs to get them to learn or to give us a 5-minute break. Elumbaugh also comments her favorite French word is honnête, “ honest or ravissant (gentleness) they were fun to use in examples or to speak when using sentences.” The most challenging part of French for ELumbaugh was figuring out what words were masculine and what words were feminine.”
The Kearsley High School French classes are great classes to take! There are many fun activities but there are also many challenges. If you start a French class in 8th grade you will be in French 5 by your senior year of high school. Once you make it to French 5 you will be very proud and feel very successful. At graduation, you will also get pins for how far you made it through French. What a cool thing to be able to tell people that you are mostly fluent in a foreign language.
