Last month, students, teachers, and families gathered in the school auditorium to celebrate the National Honor Society induction ceremony. This special evening marked an exciting milestone for the new members, as they joined an extraordinary group committed to scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the chapter advisor; Ms. Marie Miarka who then welcomed the chapter president; Senior, Josey Janiga who facilitated the ceremony. Josey introduced the night’s guest speaker Mrs. Rebecca Malmquist, who spoke on the honor it is to be a part of NHS. Mrs. Malmquist had advised NHS for many years in the past so she understood the significance. One piece of advice Mrs. Malmquist gave the inductees during her speech was; “I want you to know that it isn’t all grades, it’s knowledge and what you do with that knowledge that becomes more rewarding.” Students were touched by Malmquist’s words of wisdom.
Each inductee took to the stage to receive their NHS pin and certificate, a symbol of their hard work and dedication.“I was really honored and proud of myself for being inducted,” said new Junior inductee Isabella Linker. “I’m really excited to take part in all the service activities we will do as a chapter, community service is something I really enjoy doing.” The current members were also in attendance to celebrate their new colleagues during a memorable moment.
The event featured speeches from current NHS officers, who emphasized the four pillars of the organization. The lighting of candles symbolizing Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character brought a powerful visual element to the night. Senior Vice President Emily Callahan mentioned; “I was truly honored to have been able to induct the new members, being a part of the NHS is a generational tradition in my family so it feels great that I’m keeping it going.”
The evening concluded with light refreshments and desserts outside the auditorium, where families and faculty celebrated the achievements of the inductees. Parents snapped photos while students mingled with their peers.
The NHS induction ceremony is more than a recognition of academic and personal excellence—it’s a commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Congratulations to the new members for reaching this milestone and for their dedication to the values that make our school community stronger!
