Almost all students have a favorite class, maybe because of a teacher, or they like the subject, or it challenges them. Many students here at Kearsley High School take challenging classes. KHS has many AP and honor classes students can take. These classes can be very difficult, but they can teach students how to prioritize their time and improve as students.
Junior, Nicole Naragon was asked what the hardest class she has taken during high school was. She replied, “the hardest class I’ve taken in high school has been anatomy and physiology because it was challenging to memorize everything.” Naragon was then questioned if she thought these classes were good to take and if they helped her as a student. She answered, “yes, I think anatomy is very important to take because I want to go into healthcare so it gives me the essential knowledge.” Naragon takes many challenging classes. She believes taking these classes has taught her a lot and anatomy class is important for the career path she wants to take.
Many students have the same favorite classes. One example is juniors Nicole Naragon and Reese Hinman. Their favorite class in high school has been AP World History. Naragon mentioned she liked this class because it taught her a lot. She was also asked who the teacher was and how that impacted her decision. She said, “Mr. Markwardt was my teacher and he really pushed me in the class which helped me a ton in the end.” Hinman was questioned why this was her favorite class and she commented, “my favorite class was AP World History because I found most of the lessons interesting and the whole class had a good camaraderie.” She was also asked who the teacher was and how they impacted her. Hinman stated “Mr. Markwardt was the teacher, he challenged me where I needed it, but always had faith in my skills, sometimes more faith than I had myself.” These students liked this class because it taught them a lot and it was interesting to learn about.
Hinman takes difficult classes but she said, “so far, the hardest class I have taken is AP US History because it was fast paced and it was the first AP class I had taken so I hadn’t quite adjusted yet.” As a follow up question she was questioned if she thought it was a good class to take and if it helped her as a student. She exclaimed, “I think hard classes are definitely good to take, even if it’s just one or two. They definitely make you learn how to study more efficiently and how to manage your time better.” Taking difficult classes can help students manage time. Hinman has taken many AP classes in high school and thinks it is good to take them and thinks they can help you as a student.
Junior, Isabelle Devine commented, “the hardest class I’ve taken in high school has been AP US History because there was very little time for everything we had to learn.” Just like Naragon and Hinman she was questioned if she thinks her hardest class was a good class to take and if it helped her as a student. She said, “my hardest class has helped me with the rest of my classes because I learned how to put the most into all of my work.” Devine believes taking hard classes can help students learn how to better their work and how to do their best.
Many students have favorite classes for different reasons. Devine stated, “my favorite class has been political science because Mr. Nester has made the class interesting,” when asked what her favorite class in high school has been. She mentioned, “Mr. Nester is the teacher and his motivational talks inspire me to be the best person I can be.” Devine likes Mr. Nester’s motivational talks and quotes he writes on his board just like most of his students do.
Many students at KHS take difficult classes and these three students are a few examples. These students try their best and work hard in their classes and want to learn. They all believe taking these challenging classes has made them better students overall. Almost all students have a favorite class and they have them for a number of different reasons, such as because it teaches them a lot, it is interesting to learn about, or because of the teacher.
