It’s the most wonderful time of the year, especially for the Kearsley Vocal Music Program! Every year, the Kearsley choir performs its very own holiday concert. The students worked especially hard from October to early December for this year’s holiday concert. This year, Kearsley Acapella is performing the Christmas Pops Trio, which consists of three Christmas favorites in one, as well as Sleigh Ride, Still Still Still, Carol Of The Bells, and a very special edition called Fruit Cake, which involves physically throwing food. This concert is one you definitely don’t want to miss!
Senior second soprano, Alexandria Elumbaugh is ecstatic about this year’s holiday concert! When asked what her favorite holiday song for this concert is, Elumbaugh replied that her favorite is the “Christmas Pops Trio,” but her favorite out of that is “Winter Wonderland.” Elembaugh reported that this year’s hardest is “Still Still Still.” This is Elumbaugh’s second year in choir and she explains the most memorable song she sang in the past is “Christmas Time Is Here.” Elembaugh was then asked how she is preparing for this year’s holiday concert, she stated, “going home and working on certain parts with the online app!” Elembaugh also communicated that she is ready but, she adds: “some parts are more ready than others.”
Senior first soprano, Joslyn Smith is also very excited about this year’s holiday concert. Smith reported that “Winter Wonderland” in the Christmas Pops Trio is her favorite, she adds, “it’s a classic.” Smith conveyed that her hardest one is “Still Still Still.” She explains “there’s a lot of jumping between notes and it’s an adjustment for a soprano.” Smith expressed that her most memorable holiday song was from 2 years ago, “My Love Is Always Here” from the movie Harry Potter. Smith stated it was “such a beautiful piece.” Smith is preparing for this concert by practicing the songs at home and by singing her part from memory until she has it drilled in her head. Smith was asked if she was ready for the concert. She intoned, “I feel great and prepared, we have been practicing lots and I’m ready to put it to good use.”
Senior, alto Apsen Jamerson reports that their favorite piece is the “Christmas Pops Trio.” However, Jamerson explains that it is the hardest because “there are a lot of different parts to memorize.” Jamerson has been in choir before, but adds that this year’s “ Fruit Cake” will be the most memorable, especially because of being able to throw things on stage. Jamerson is preparing for this concert by practicing the music at home. Jamerson is ready for the concert!
This year’s holiday concert will be great, and you’ll regret not coming to see it! The Kearsley Choir has a very busy year ahead of them with many fun opportunities and performances. Kearsley Acapella plans to continue progressing and improving their skills as the year goes on. Happy Holidays from your very own choir! As Buddy the Elf says, “the best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear!”
